Tips for your Cap and Gown Mini Session

These are quick, back-to-back sessions so please be on time, or 5 minutes early, to your assigned session time!

Please steam your gown and stole prior to your session. Due to the quick turnaround nature of these photos, I will not be able to photoshop wrinkles out of your gown or sash.

Don’t forget your gown, cap, tassel, sash/stole, and honor cords!

Please come prepared with a couple poses you’d like me to capture. I will guide you with posing but if there’s something in particular you really want, please tell me.

--Outfits:

-avoid busy patterns and anything with

logos (unless it is a school/college related shirt)

-avoid patterns with small stripes or checks, they don’t photograph as well

-Please wear the right undergarments for your chosen outfit. If you are wearing a white dress, I recommend nude undergarments as opposed to white.

-You are welcome to bring a college decision t-shirt for one or two photos, but it needs to be something you can throw on top of what you are wearing because we will not have the time or facilities for a full outfit change.

--Accessories:

-Classic simple jewelry is usually best.

Please make sure any clasps are situated to back of neck before photos

-remove cell phones and wallets from pockets before start of session

--Hair and Makeup:

-You want your makeup to be natural and look like you normally look. This is not the time to experiment with dramatic new makeup looks 😉.

-avoid super shimmery makeup and heavy highlighters as they can come off as shiny and uneven in photographs. Bring powder and gloss or lipstick with you for any touch ups.

-if you have your makeup done by a professional make sure they know it’s for a photoshoot and they will know to use matte products

-do not stress about blemishes. I will retouch them in editing.

-you know your hair best so style it in a way that feels natural and comfortable. If you’re trying anything new with your hair, make sure you practice it in advance, so you know you’ll be happy with it.

-we will do the portraits with cap on head last so as not to mess up your hair from the beginning.

-Nails:

Your hands will likely be in some of your closeups so please make sure your nails are however you would like them to look.

-REMOVE ANY HAIR TIES FROM WRISTS AT

LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR SESSION. Yes, I’m shouting lol but please follow this guideline to avoid red marks on wrists.

Get plenty of rest and hydration before your session. A late night out the night before WILL show up in your eyes in your photos!
